For the Easter weekend we stayed at Underhill Farm, located in Botrivier. Unquestionably our decision for this destination was based primarily on the name of our accommodation, Hobbit Hollow. Furthermore with its grass topped roof alongside the river, there was a definite Lord of the Rings vibe.
The farm is dog friendly so our pugs were could join! In addition, with an enclosed area this meant we could comfortably let them off their leashes to explore. The quiet surroundings took a day or two for all of us to get used to.

Arriving on the afternoon of Friday, we spent the remainder of the day settling in. The Hobbit Hollow is able to accommodate a family consisting of 2 adults and 2 children.

Bathroom with a unique skylight
Natural pool

We stayed for a total of three nights and this posed its own problems. As our preparation to be more comprehensive due to the closest town of Grabouw being approximately 20 kilometers away. Although not too far, it would meant travelling on gravel roads and passing through two farm gates. The gates and residing owner does ensure a sense of security.
The temperature of our Hobbit Hollow didn’t fluctuate all that much. Even in the heat of the day, as the natural shade and grass-topped roof kept most of the heat away. At night we used the indoor wood stove at night to ensure that the night chill was kept at bay.

We spent our days braai-ing, reading and walking along the river. Without a doubt we left relaxed and rejuvenated. The pugs enjoyed themselves which is the most important thing. Obviously we could enjoy ourselves knowing they were safe.
