This year for Valentine’s Day I unsuccessfully surprised my husband with a night away at Hoedjiesbaai Hotel in Saldanha.
We left mid-morning on Saturday, we arrived at Saldanha in time for lunch an approximate 2 hour drive. After locating the hotel, we wondered down the street and had a lovely lunch at Captain’s Cabin. The service was quick and friendly. And the portions and cheese was plentiful. Their website boasts that they have the best view, and they aren’t lying.

After lunch, we checked in to Hoedjiesbaai Hotel. Our room was on the first floor, and we had the sea facing room. What this meant, is our balcony was directly over the ocean which I was enthralled by and my husband dismayed by.

Fell in love with this chair
Our room was clean and adequate for our one night stay. We were able to tell where there had been upgrades in the room and where there hadn’t been. Sadly, the bathroom was slightly outdated and a bit dark.
As an additional surprise, I had arranged for a bottle of sparkling wine to be in our room when we checked in, and the staff delivered beautifully.

Loved the colour combination
After settling in to our room, we were off again for our pre-arranged activity. This honestly is the reason why I had booked us in Hoedjiesbaai Hotel. Our activity was the Mystery Room! An escape room located on the ground floor of the hotel. Although this wasn’t our first escape room and it wasn’t as high tech it was very well thought out. We were running from room to room trying to find switches to light up lights. For me the most exciting was the use of a non-lethal power tool!

Afterwards we lounged on our balcony before going for a walk and swim on the beach followed by a quick nap which took us up until dinner time.
The entire third floor of Hoedjiesbaai Hotel is a restaurant, with a 360 degree view. We loved the food and laughed with our waitress. It was a good end to an even better day.
We have decided that we were at Saldanha for its best two weather days as Sunday was more magnificent than the Saturday.

We had breakfast in the third floor restaurant, well I had one breakfast and my husband had two. With our bellies full once again, we packed up , checked out and headed home. It was a short break but enough to ensure that we had broken our routine.
