We headed out to Franschhoek for the long weekend. Really looking forward to staying for two nights in the Waterfall Lodge on Chaminox Wine Farm<\/a> just before Franschhoek proper. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regrettably, not a pug friendly venue so their Gran spoiled them something terrible in our absence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Waterfall Lodge is in a gully on the mountainside of the Chaminox Wine Farm. To drive the cobbled, one lane road over streams and up the steep incline was nerve wracking. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After arriving at our Waterfall Lodge, we then stood in awe at the sight of our very own waterfall. There are no other lodges \/ people nearby and the waterfall was ours. The sound of constant roaring water permeated every moment of our stay. The lodge was round and made from stone, and in many ways reminded me of a smurf home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With our very own waterfall came something we hadn’t anticipated, the dampness. In hindsight, we shouldn’t have expected less than for everything to be damp. The damp living came to a head when using the toilet as the toilet paper itself was damp. My husband tried to light candles for romance, the candle wick was too damp to light!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An anthracite and wood stove is used for heat, and it was kept fired up. After drying some logs, we took turns in warming ourselves. Once going, it somehow coped with heating and keeping the lodge warm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saturday morning we headed into Franschhoek to visit the town and market<\/a>. We spent our time walking around and looking at all the crafts on sale. On our way back to our waterfall we stopped at the chocolatier<\/a>. We missed the the chocolate tour but that didn’t stop us from purchasing some rather divine chocolate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No TV and wifi ensured that we got the recommended hours of sleep for the two nights we were there. This after trying to braai on both nights. The first night didn’t go as planned due to the lack of light and fast creeping shadows. The kitchen appliances finished cooking dinner. The second night was slightly better as we raced the sun to finish dinner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
